knitters rock

I posted my finished objects for the hat, scarf, and bootie drive I organized with my friend Karen’s yarn a while ago. I am not sure that I finished anything else with her yarn since then, I kind of ran out of steam. The other knitters didn’t, though. Here is the pile we ended up donating to Breast Cancer Connections for their comfort bags.

I was really impressed with what we pulled together and the woman there told me more than once that it was a really generous donation. Yay, us!

Meanwhile, I have one skein left of Caron One Pound and am going to knit as many 7×9-inch pieces as I can for Warm Up America with stitch patterns from Barbara Walker’s first treasury. So far I have made two.

We’ll see how many pieces I get before I get tired of it. If there is enough yarn left when I’m tired of squares then I hope to knit a friendship shawl for their project as well.

I also finished at hat since I last posted. It’s the binary cable hat.

I started sweater sleeve from the pattern booklet I got at Stitches.

And the yarn I ordered with my WEBS free shipping code from Stitches came.

It’s a little less blue and a little more green than in this photo. I think it’s really pretty. It’s going to be a Pucker. I knit a Pucker once before in a different yarn than recommended and it was awful. I’m hoping the right yarn will make it work because I think it’s a very cute top. The one that didn’t work I offered up on Facebook and I’ll be giving it to a friend for her daughter’s teacher. My son’s teacher piped up that she’d take one and so I’ll be giving her a different sweater that I knit that didn’t work on me! I just need to weave in the bazillion ends. I can do that, though! I just need to, you know, DO it.

I have been quiet for the past two months, haven’t I? I have been knitting (and crocheting) away, though. First I made a crocheted basket for my mom for her birthday.

It matches the washcloth/hand towel that I made for her for Christmas. I still haven’t given it to her, though! I need to rectify that.

Next up, a silvery scarf for I am not sure who. For the fun of knitting it, perhaps.

In the same theme, I made an orange Lintilla scarf, unsure if I would actually want to wear it. I didn’t.

I liked knitting it, and I liked the way it turned out but the orange didn’t work on me. Luckily, it worked on Kristi.

The orange ruffles were for Kristi, apparently

Sorry for the blurry faced picture. We were inside, at Stitches West! Speaking of Stitches, I bought some lovely blue Lisa Souza silk at Stitches.

I think it will become a cowl. But first, I am knitting a sweater from Norah Gaughan Vol. 10 called Etesian. I tried on the sample at the WEBS booth at Stitches and fell in love with it. They are now knitting up their garments in size 14 and size 4 so I was able to try on the larger one. I am pleased with this trend and emailed them to tell them so! I’m knitting mine in ArtFibers Chutney, a matte silk yarn. My swatches turned out nicely and I have high hopes for it! I didn’t take a photo of them, so you’ll have to take my word for it.

One last finished object: A binary cable hat.

I knit one of these for Cookie and on the way to Yosemite last week, I decided that I wanted one too. My plan was to knit it in the car and wear it there. Well… I didn’t start it until we got back but I have finished it and wore it this morning for school drop off. (That is when the picture was taken.)

Whew. I guess I have been busy! No time to type more, though, my new sweater project is calling.

hats and mitts and WIPs, oh my

I need to set one day as my blog posting day and just talk about whatever it is I'm doing, otherwise I think I just posted and then it's been more than two weeks since my last real post! Oops.

Anyway, after my last post I knit one more Oh, Honey hat (Ravelry details), this time out of Calmer. I got some Rowan Cashcotton to make one for Christy by request, and then I appear to be done with the hats. I seem to get addicted to patterns and just have to knit them a certain number of times to get them out of my system, more on that later.

After the hat I had some secret knitting going on. I decided to knit Cookie something for her birthday. I started with a hat (Ravelry details) but that was done too fast so I picked out a gauntlet pattern that kind of went with the hat (Ravelry details) but then I was totally powerless to stop myself from knitting a pair for me (Ravelry details).

I'm modelling Cookie's pair in the first picture of the gauntlets there, I only knit myself one pair. I find it baffling though, I tend to fall for these patterns. Granted, usually it's small, instant gratification patterns like, oh, say, bunnies, or dish cloths, hats or gauntlets. I just knit and knit and knit until I feel done. I wonder what that says about me, and if it's something good or that I'm a crazy person. I think I don't want to know.

In WIP news, I'm still working on Niels striped cabled sweater. I'm on the second sleeve, so I have to knit that, the hood and then the sewing up begins. Oh, and the ends. I'm not sure it will be done by Christmas. I'm fairly sure it will not, which is probably for the best because then I'd feel bad that I didn't make something for Stefan.

I started Rogue for my mom. It was secret there for a little while, but then I had her try it on, which was good! It was too small. Darnit. I had measured her and decided on a size but then talked myself into knitting one size down. I think I wanted to get it done faster. Ah well. I ripped it out last Thursday and cast on again. I haven't gotten very far. I have until the end of January if I want to have it done for her birthday.

Before that, I have a baby shower to attend and I want to knit an Avery sweater. Two actually, because she's having twins. Maybe I should stick with the bunnies and give her the sweaters after the babies are born since I plan to make them the right size for the fall or so, and these two are due in March. We'll see.

I have a lot on my plate! Wish me luck!
