NaBloPoMo Day 20: is November over yet?

Again, I’ve got nothing. Well, almost nothing. I am not planning any trips but I have flying on the brain.

I have been reading all sorts of Internet flap about the TSA and flying and the “Don’t touch my junk” guy. Then I read about a 3-year-old crying while being frisked while her Teddy Bear went through the x-ray. It sounded horrible. Then I saw the video and it was even worse than I had imagined. She was practically climbing her mom to get away from the TSA agent and wailing, “don’t touch me!” All while the person kept frisking her.

It makes me think about my trip back to Philadelphia with a 2 month old baby. I had him in the sling and set off the metal detector, so they asked me to take him out and go through again. When I held him out to my mom for her to hold him, they frisked him. He didn’t object but they also didn’t tell me they were going to do it.

Last time I flew my bra set off the metal detector. I had worn this one on a flight before with no incident so I thought it would be okay. They wanded me and patted wherever the wand beeped. It beeped everywhere in a bra that there is metal, including the underwire. I was patted in all of those places, with the back of the agent’s hand but it as still a bit like having a breast exam in the airport in front of everyone, including my children.

Now I’m reading stories about people opting out of the body scanners getting frisked in even more intimate ways. It makes me so glad that I am not flying anywhere any time soon. Particularly because I’m not exactly eager to have my boys exposed to radiation from the scanner and I am certainly not going to let a TSA agent pat them down in such an intimate way.

I need a teleporter.

Sorry for the complete lack of knitting content. This is what’s in my brain. Sorry, folks.
